JULY 2012 NEWS
Summer is here (in the northern hemisphere) and – usually – we can expect a lot of sunshine. Who knows what this summer will bring in terms of the weather but from the point of view of creating balance in our lives, ways to cool our minds and bodies are useful at this time of year. Cooling off and refreshing our busy minds is always beneficial and particularly now when there is a natural tendency to slow down and play. Water provides the refreshing element when the sun is providing the heat! Here is a meditation focussing on the soothing and refreshing effects that water can have:
- Sit or lie in a comfortable position with your spine straight. Take some deep breaths and, as you breathe out, allow your whole body to sink into the chair or floor.
- Feel your breath filling up your whole body, right down into your fingertips and the tips of your toes.
- As you breathe out, release any tension, pain or discomfort held in your mind or body……just let it float away with your out breath.
- Let your awareness now float to a large lake, still and frozen, surrounded by snow capped mountains. Sense the calm, depth and stillness of this lake. Imagine sitting and looking out over this lake. Feel your own inner stillness and depth, take as long as you need and enjoy the experience.
- Gently now let your awareness drift to a running stream that is just beside you. You can dangle your feet in the cool water. Sense the water carrying away heat and busy thoughts. See them drifting away with the ripples of water.
Enjoy this sensation, relax.
Only when you are ready…….
- …..come to a waterfall that is pouring out of rocks. Step into the waterfall and let the fresh, fast flowing, cooling waters pour over you. Smile, enjoy, relax. Take your time.
- Finally, find yourself at the edge of the ocean at sunset. Close your eyes and listen to the gentle waves lapping on the shore. As you breathe in, feel the waves coming into shore, as you breathe out feel them leave. Continue until you feel ready to stretch, open your eyes, and come back into the room.
To help these meditations, an indoor fountain is a great idea – there are so many available now in all sizes, shapes, prices and designs. The cooling sound of water, and its rhythm helps to bring balance.

JUNE 2013 NEWS
We are in the middle of our year and there has been a lot of 'stopping and starting' going on for humans, plants, animals, birds and wildlife as life tries to keep pace with the ever changing weather patterns. Nature has a way of being flexible and adapting to circumstances. Human beings aren't always so adaptable and with fixed plans and outcomes we can be thrown off course. To help us to flow with the ever changing weather, we recommend our Wake Up and Relax pulsepoint creams and a choice of blend that encourages openness and acceptance such as our Love blend and Understanding blend. The other choice at this time is the Imagination and Perception blend which helps to balance left and right brain.
Walk whenever you get the opportunity, to connect with the Earth and feel the strength of the natural world supporting you. Walking in silence listening and becoming aware of the sounds around you helps us to feel part of our environment, rather than separate from it.
MAY 2013 NEWS
Finally it's possible to get outside and garden, without getting soaked to the skin!
We are selecting seeds for evening primrose, calendula - marigold and borage - starflower. Each of these plants has a distinctive flower, evening primrose is yellow, marigold orange and starflower blue. The flowering heads will be used to create infused herbal oils in late Summer.
Colour is one of the guiding principles of Innerscents. We link our aromas with colours and offer you the opportunity to choose essential oil blends using your intuition. See 'Choose Your Blend' page of our website for details. It's easy - and fun - and if you have any specific questions once you have made your choice, please don't hesitate to contact us: 'sue@innerscents.co.uk' or 'customercare@innerscents.co.uk' and we will be very happy to give advice.
This month we are offering free samples of our aromatherapy bath and shower gel blends, giving you the chance to try the blend you choose. Add your choice in the 'Comments' box when ordering and we will send a sample with your order. See Special Offer details on our main site and in the online shop.
APRIL 2013 NEWS
'To be positive is to look for a form of love in everything.' (from a French little book series, Positive Thinking by Jean Gastaldi, Edtions du Rocher).
Plants of all kinds, trees, flowers, vegetables...... demonstrate the cycles of life, the miracle of growth and the beauty of our World. Looking carefully at how plants form and change or gardening, if this is something you like to do, brings a connection with our natural world.
When life seems hard and miserable, it can help to look and admire the sheer power of nature. Always there, always developing, transforming and overcoming. Look at the way a tiny pansy flower will push up through earth and stone.
This month we are offering a free gift size Sleepwell pillowspray with our Life Box Collection. The Life Boxes give you the opportunity to do a little gardening and plant some seeds, while using your selected blends of aromatherapy oils. Find them in our online shop in the Life Boxes department.
HAPPY GARDENING!

JUNE 2012 NEWS
As summer approaches, and we have more daylight hours, it can help to look at how we use our time.
Time is a big issue for many working people. How to fit in all the things that need to be done, working, looking after our homes, families, ourselves…………… A useful way to see how we can manage our time more effectively, is to draw up a simple ‘pie’ chart. This is simply a large circle on a sheet of paper, or on computer if you prefer. List near the circle the areas of your life that you consider most important, for example: Friends, Family, Work, Exercise, Particular hobby or interest, Relationship, Spiritual practice, Relaxation etc…………..
Think about how much of your life is focussed into each area and divide the circle, or pie, into segments representing these areas. It will show up very clearly where you aren’t spending enough time, or obviously where you’re spending far too much. It gives an overview that we haven’t always got, if we don’t ‘step back’ sometimes and assess our life balance.
Once you’ve done this, look at where you’d like to make some changes and draw up an ‘ideal pie’. To take this another step, go to our Choose Your Blend page and see which blend you are intuitively attracted to. The keyword of the blend can help your focus to change and bring balance. This month we are giving free sample blends, in gel form for bath and shower, as our June special offer. A good time to try them. Mention which blend you would like to sample in the Comments box when ordering and we will send this to you in the form of an aromatherapy bath and shower gel.
MAY 2012 NEWS
With the challenges facing us all at this time, having ways to relax down and calm worries and anxiety, can be very helpful. The following simple meditation/relaxation is designed to help with calming mind and body. You might like to make a recording of this that you can play and listen to when going to bed.
Lie flat on your back on a bed or on the floor and take some deep breaths (in and out through your nose). Each time you breathe out, feel your whole body sinking into the mattress. Let the sound of the out breath release, exaggerating it slightly, to really get a sense of letting go, as you breathe out. Let go of tension held in the body with the out breath. Let go of any pain or discomfort with the out breath. Release and Let go. Don’t worry about your in breath, you will naturally take in breath. It’s holding the breath that causes tension in the mind and body, releasing the breath and with it, releasing anything you want to let go of, creates a calm, relaxed state.
If thoughts come into your mind, gently let them float away and release with the out breath. There is nothing to think about right now just notice sensations rather than thoughts.
If your thoughts are tugging your attention, count your breaths. Breathe in for 3 counts, stop and rest for 2 counts then breathe out for 6 counts. Stop and rest for 2 counts before breathing in again for 3 counts, resting for 2, and so on until you feel deeply relaxed. Then just return to your usual breathing rhythm or drift off to sleep.
You might like to try our ‘Sleepwell’ pillowspray and Aromatherapy Bath and Shower Gel too, if you are having problems sleeping.
Sweet Dreams.

MARCH 2012 NEWS
As colourful flowers push up through the earth in early spring, signs of life, growth and a new ‘energy’ surround us. We can’t help but notice the vitality and ‘busy-ness’ of nature’s plants. And yet, during the darker days of winter months, a lot of activity too is taking place, but beneath the surface. Roots of many trees and shrubs strengthen and expand during winter. Bulbs gather nutrients and ‘bed in’, ready to push upwards in Spring, while the seeds of vegetables and many flowers rest, storing energy.
We can use these images for our own inner work. Putting down and establishing roots is vital to our wellbeing and development, not just in the physical sense but also in our spiritual lives.
With so much focus on the external world in our western society, internal resting, establishing and strengthening, can be ignored, delayed or seen as irrelevant. Here is a visualisation/meditation designed for our spiritual selves and to help us to ‘flower’ and to ‘blossom’ from a strong, rooted base.
Stand (or if unable to stand, sit), with your feet firmly placed on the floor, don’t cross your legs or ankles if seated.
Breathe in, letting your breath fill up your whole body, right down to the soles of your feet. Breathe out letting go of tension, pain or discomfort and feeling the breath coming out through the soles of your feet into the ground below. Repeat this through 3 or 4 times, each time getting a sense of your roots connecting down in the Earth.
Close your eyes to help your concentration, if you wish. Now bend your legs then stretch back up again. Repeat 5 or 6 times. As you bend breathe out, as your stretch back up, breathe in.
Feel your lower body, legs and feet being energised by this exercise. Now standing, make the action of taking off a pullover (jumper) stretching your arms above your head then back down to your sides. Repeat this 5 or 6 time, each time allowing your upper body to open out, stretch and energise.
At the end, take a few deep breaths, in and out, gently open your eyes, SMILE and continue your day.
